Creating a Vibrant Arts Scene in Farmington/Farmington Hills: On a Summer Music and Arts Festival in the Park

As we’ve considered what missing from the arts scene in Farmington/Farmington Hills to make it more vibrant we wrote about the need for a performing arts center to be built in downtown Farmington, along with the need for some alternative cinema options, a cool, hip, café that supports the arts, a dynamic art gallery space (or two), a public arts project to add fun & poetry to our neighborhoods, the need for some creative writers and gadflies, and artist live/work spaces.

What about a fun and rollicking music & arts festival in the park?

summer music festivalWe have two beautiful parks in the community that would be great places to hold a music and arts festival: Shiawassee Park near downtown Farmington and Heritage Park off of Farmington Road in Farmington Hills. Heritage Park is home to a summer concert series on Thursday nights, sponsored by the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division, while Riley Park (in downtown Farmington) is home to the Rhythmz in Riley Park series on Friday nights. There is also the upcoming DWNTWN2014 event and we’ll have more information about that next week.

But we don’t have an all-day music festival to get out there and enjoy a warm summer day in the park among friends, water, cool art, food trucks, and great music.

So, anyone want to help us plan a 2015 summer festival?
